That's Incredible!

One of our family's favorite movies is the 2004 Disney/Pixar classic, The Incredibles (http://disney.go.com/disneyvideos/animatedfilms/incredibles/main.html).  Matt and I saw this movie before we had kids and we were thrilled when we showed it to Leah and Aaron and they liked it too.  Actually, they don't like it; they love it.  They often pretend play along with the movie (with Leah as Violet and Aaron as Dash) or on their own.  In fact, I had to institute a rule where we do not watch that movie after 5pm in our house because they get too wound up and try to run all over the house defeating bad guys.

It was a no-brainer for me, then, when we were planning our trip to Tokyo Disney, to get us Incredibles t-shirts when I saw them on disneystore.com.  We used to have matching Mickey Mouse t-shirts that we wore for a family holiday photo in 2008.  Obviously, the kids grew out of theirs.  When I was looking online I found the create-your-own section and I knew everyone, including Matt, would flip if I got them each a shirt.  Leah and Aaron really loved having a Dash and Violet shirt.  We wore them to DisneySea and got a few compliments from cast members.

If the shirts were a success then the next thing I got was over-the-top.  Leah's school was having an end-of-the-school-year masquerade ball and I was online looking for masks when I came across Violet and Dash costumes on partycity.com.  I knew I had to get them.  I figured Leah and Aaron could wear them for Halloween and even if they decided they wanted to be something else, they would wear it enough around the house pretend playing to justify the purchase.  As it turns out, Leah didn't end up going to the dance (it was the same day as a picnic Matt's department was having).  I just gave the kids the costumes this Monday, as a celebration of the first week out of school.  As predicted, they loved them and wore them around the house for hours.
Violet and Dash (a.k.a. Leah and Aaron)
It's hard to imagine that it could get any better than that, but it did.  For the summer here the movie theaters on base (there is one on the Main Base and one in Hario) are showing free kids movies a few afternoons a week.  On Wednesday, June 19, they showed The Incredibles at the MB theater.  Not only did we go to see it--the kids first time on the big screen--but Leah and Aaron wore their costumes.
Even at the movies, your secret identity is your
most valuable asset.
Some of the other kids in the movie theater were impressed and best of all, Leah and Aaron enjoyed themselves.  We weren't planning on going to see the movie again today but after a trip to the Post Office and lunch at Subway (yes, the kids were wearing their t-shirts and got the free kids meals) we thought about it.  In Hario, the Post Office, Subway and the Exchange are all in the same building and that building is about 100 yards from the movie theater.  It had been raining all day and started to rain even harder so we decided, "Why not?"  We watched it for the second time in three days (for free) and had an INCREDIBLE time.  (Sorry--couldn't resist!)
