Today (Sunday, May 26, 2013) we went to Nimitz Park for a Memorial Day picnic. Nimitz Park is a park across the street from the Navy base that is owned by the US Navy. It has a turf soccer field and being in Japan, about four baseball fields as well. There is also a small playground, a jogging path and a USO building. Nimitz Park is adjacent to Sasebo Park, which is owned by the city and has lots of trees and a huge, awesome playground with a zip line, which the kids love.
The CPO (Chief Petty Officer) Association on Matt's ship was sponsoring the picnic. It was nicer than when they are command-sponsored (ship-sponsored) because the ship is so huge. There were probably no more than 50 people at one time there. As is typical with us, we arrived early and left early and it worked out well. The kids had a great time and the weather was not too hot. We hope everyone has a happy and healthy Memorial Day!
