A final note: you may be wondering why the title does not have “Japan” in it. Well, I am reserving the right to expand outside our Japanese adventure. Also, last year, I made a conscious effort to focus on the positive of every situation (which in some cases not always easy) instead of getting caught in the negative. It is very easy to always see the negative result first and that negative energy, I find, lingers with you. By focusing on the positive, or the bright side, things tend to be easier to handle. Also, kids (like dogs) can sense and react to that energy. I want Leah and Aaron to be excited for our new adventure as well as learn how to deal with adversity rather than just cry and whine. It’s an ongoing process and there are times when it is not as easy but I have found, like with anything, the more you practice, the easier it gets.

Starting a Blog
A friend of mine, upon learning that I would be
moving to Japan, suggested that I write a blog while I was there documenting my
experiences, comparing life (and food products) to that in America. I’m not big into social media—I am one of the
few who does not have a Facebook account—but I thought it might be a good way
to keep in touch with friends and family.
This friend, Beth Ann, has her own blog, ( http://journeytobabysuan.blogspot.com). She rarely posts anything to it these days
(due to being on Facebook), but I used to be fascinated by her blog as it
documented the steps involved in the adoption of her children. I was completely ignorant of the adoption process and
I used to joke to her that it was my soap opera. Had I been more ambitious, organized or
whatever, I would have started at the overseas move process because it has been, at times,
ridiculous. I may still go and revisit
it if it turns out that I enjoy the blogging process and find a way to fit it
into my schedule. For now, it is a good
way to let a lot of people know what and how we are doing without having to
type endless e-mails (or even copy and paste).
I hope you enjoy it and get a taste of our adventures for the next three
years. You should be able to subscribe
so you can receive an e-mail every time there is a new post or you can just
bookmark the page and visit when you have the time an inclination to do
so.

Julie, I am so excited about your blog. I can't wait to hear about your adventures in Japan and how your resolution to see the positive in things affects the situations you encounter in every day life.
ReplyDeleteCharles and I are kicking around the idea of coming to Japan to visit you and Matt while you are there. Much of it will depend on how well his new law practice does and if we have the time. Would you guys be up for a visit from us in about a year or two? We wouldn't be Klingon visitors, but would visit with you for a couple of days as a part of our trip. I have always wanted to visit Japan since I worked for a Japanese company.
We are in process of remodeling our house. It is INSANE!!!! But the good news is that we will get a break when we go to Paris for two weeks in October. I can't wait.
Give my best to Matt and a big hug to Leah and Aaron for me.
Love ya',
Lisa
